After the Vows: Poems Between Lovers

My wife and I collaborated on this book of sonnets. We've been writing a dialog of 14-line poems since about 2001 or so, and we're finally getting published!
It's available direct from our publisher, Diminuendo Press.
Here are two poems from the collection (the two exerpted on the back cover):

On Those Days
When I leave the house, you sleeping soundly
in our bed, and the kitchen is a mess,
and the children have been fussy, I rail
at you in my head. I rant and I rave,
for you to take away the strain of it.
And then, when sitting up to my elbows
in projects, you call—my frustration melts.
Tears form and dribble down unpainted cheeks,
and I smile. I can hear in your tone love
for me and how much you miss having me
with you—knowing my spirit always is
even when my body is miles away.
I have grown with you and the love you give
beyond the starry-eyed girl I once was.

Virtue’s Daughter
Who’d have thought we would be good examples
for others in love? Kissing and cooing
wherever the impulse grabs us, groping
each other without concern for spying
eyes or jealous glares, with outright contempt
for stilted prudes and other shame-mongers
who would stifle all such public displays
and spread their heretical ideas
about abstinence as true purity,
and coitus as original sin, when
we know better. Sincere affection is
life’s greatest virtue—and love its daughter.
Writing sonnets, kissing often, loving
well—that is our example to the world.

About Me:
I am primarily a poet. I work as an editor. I'm working on eight novels; four are completely drafted, the others are in progress. I enjoy photography, art, research, and writing. I am married to a very talented poet and painter, and stepfather to her wonderfully talented sons Ian and Colin.
I'm Looking To Connect With...
Writers. Illustrators (I write a great many poems based on paintings, especially of nudes, and am always looking for painters in the Fantasy genre in hopes of finding the perfect illustration for my novels). Painters. Photographers. Anyone creative and interesting!

I am very interested in collaborative projects with photographers and painters, especially portraitists, in which I write poems to your pictures. (You can see samples of this kind of work on my main website.)

Nano Novel: FREE fiction

Okay, so another NaNoWriMo award merely qualifies me as a hack (which is, let’s face it, a higher honor than a pedestrian or closet scribbler - someone with aspirations to ‘one day’ write), but I earned this one BIGTIME.

The whole month of November was pretty much a blank for me as far as… Continue

Write You a Love Sonnet

TOO MINDFUL TO WRITE YOU A LOVE POEM

Too conscious, I write you a love sonnet
about writing you a love song about
writing poems of love . . . But my head knows
what my heart can’t tell. Because I think of love
in this moment instead of feeling love,
our love, flow and so it’s no-go in our
Mountain Stream, thinking too much to feel this
feeling I want to put into words . . .
And I, no more musical than these tin cans
banging down the highway behind our white
getaway car, no limo but no le… Continue

Sonnet: She Obfuscates the Night

SHE OBFUSCATES THE NIGHT

Coy muse, she. Obfuscates the night, these days
gone in delicate dreams, and hours spent
pondering enigmatic eyes. It’s bent
my mind toward the full moon, yet silence stays
this chill heart from where a nasty mind strays
between delights’ hours. This dream she sent
from ocean eyes hints beaches—a week’s rent
for a studio on stilts—pleasure preys.

But then this room—back into focus; now
back to myself, realize she’s but dream
built on a thumbnail image. And yet h… Continue

Sonnet: Sun Wings

Sun Wings

She left so many years ago. We sang
her home, graveside, and prayed her immortal
soul to rest . . . Asked, she would often chortle
and speak of life’s treasure, despite great pain,
dizzy therapies, chemo—constant rain
dripping morphine from a bladder bottle
hung on a stainless cross. Just how brittle
she was, we never could tell. How she sang!

Last night at the club, you say you saw her
dancing like she was back in the nineties;
It sounds hokey, but it’s one of those things
th… Continue

Sonnet: Wine Seaside and Love and You

Wine Seaside and Love and You

Perhaps a honeymoon, you and me, two
flutes and a bottle of wine. Beachfront, we
dance through this rented bungalow, the sea
swooshing, tide thrumming, moon smiling on true
love as we dance and kiss and toast our tr… Continue

Yep, it's AZ, outside of Cave Creek/ Carefree. About 45 minutes out of the Valley. Sedona is my favorite place outside of Lake Tahoe, instant serenity.

Well, drat- that was what I thought. The same copyright law that protects my work the moment it's 'published' also squashes my being able to post anything for opinion if I plan to put it in a book!

Much like government health care system...yanno? ;)

I have a lot of work to share! I think part of the problem is whether I should share all of it..lol! Some is going into a book (actually, a few books), and though I would like comments, I don't want to make it public. All the other stuff is definitely sharable though!

I might even ask some people to give me challenges! I used to do funny personal stories, songs and poems based on information people gave me (usually for someone with a birthday). I was thinking of starting that up again- it was fun!

Is this a safe forum to post things you might publish later on?

Thanks. I love mandalas too. They are so powerful and to create one is really an intense experience. It is evident I love my glass too. It is like an addiction to work with. It flows with you. Thanks again!
