A TOAST TO HAPPINESS
by Edgar Guest

To happiness I raise my glass,
The goal of every human,
The hope of every clan and class
And every man and woman.
The daydreams of the urchin there,
The sweet theme of the maiden's prayer,
The strong man's one ambition,
The sacred prize of mothers sweet,
The tramp of soldiers on the street
Have all the selfsame mission.
Life here is nothing more or less
Than just a quest for happiness.

Some seek it on the mountain top,
And some within a mine;
The widow in her notion shop
Expects its sun to shine.
The tramp that seeks new roads to fare,
Is one with king and millionaire
In this that each is groping
On different roads, in different ways,
To come to glad, contented days,
And shares the common hoping.
The sound of martial fife and drum
Is born of happiness to come.

Yet happiness is always here
Had we the eyes to see it;
No breast but holds a fund of cheer
Had man the will to free it.
'Tis there upon the mountain top,
Or in the widow's notion shop,
'Tis found in homes of sorrow;
'Tis woven in the memories
Of happier, brighter days than these,
The gift, not of to-morrow
But of to-day, and in our tears
Some touch of happiness appears.

'Tis not a joy that's born of wealth:
The poor man may possess it.
'Tis not alone the prize of health:
No sickness can repress it.
'Tis not the end of mortal strife,
The sunset of the day of life,
Or but the old should find it;
It is the bond twixt God and man,
The touch divine in all we plan,
And has the soul behind it.
And so this toast to happiness,
The seed of which we all possess.

Can we (as the collective) start an online forum that gathers / organizes and continues to update the various online mediums for artists of all flavors? Is there one already available and I DO NOT MEAN google. :-D

I want a place that the contributors are the artists and they know the best places to sell, post or market their art.

Thanks for all the great resources.

I am interested in promoting my work. My problem is that I'm attached to my pieces.

Hi! Everyone, I want to join you in this amazing "Marketing and Self Promotion" arena. I know we could all use an agent. I am even thinking of being an agent for several artist friends I have in the North-west here. I live in Canada but close to Seattle. I fly around alot, and the photo of me at "Hell's Gate" is actually in the Fraser River Canyon, north of Vancouver and Seattle ( on a road trip with my Mom). Art agents just have to go visit alot of gallerys and chat with the employees and owners. Each Gallery has certain requests and types of clients. The delicate transfer of work is the problem, ( and of course obtaining the cash!!!) an agent would have to arrange the venu, and the pricing, and the time-frame that a gallery would show a work. However, the liability for the crating and safety of the work, would be discussed, and ascertained between the agent and the artist and the gallery. Gallerys usually ship, once a work is sold and paid for. Some gallerys even attend the mounting at the clients home once transferred. These things come to mind as I ponder acting as an agent for friends and associates, here. Any other ideas?? My own new work is on my website at : www.sandrafayad.com/art
Please have a look! and send me your ideas! Cheers

Rebecca, I read your thoughts on struggling with promotion, and how Dark Arya is your passion. Perhaps we all have problems with doing the daily grind, even if we make it our main talent; which we chose and love. Perhaps, when we lose the momentum because of our time schedule we feel out of sync, so to speak ; with our passion and motivation. We are artists, we need to be aware of the amount of "dream-time" we need to keep our "creative inner vision" fed. It is called "sharpening the saw", if you read Stephen Covey ( First Things First). Once we are in production, we often loose sight of how much time we still need to reserve for our inner work. My inner creative requires "down-time" , I cannot just force it because I am in front of a canvas. I have to have nurtured it; previously. How about you? Any suggestions?

Hey guys, thanks for all the great input! I'll be having a second conversation with a developer this coming week and should know more soon. This is a big idea, but that's what this site is all about...
LarBru Comment by LarBru on July 15, 2008 at 4:09am
so many ideas

here is one E-Commerce/Marketplace

some of these are like a bulletin board system built community.

one key would be metta tags for the search engines

and another consideration competitiveness which might be alleviated by making it an e-commerce market place auction house similar to ebay on one end and on another end a store front for non auction pre set selling prices.

there is a lot of this stuff out there some free some fee based with shoping carts and paypal and or credit card processing but to process credit cards one would have to have a merchants account.

maybe our group "web design" will have other suggestions

I love the idea of a market place that encompasses all the different types of creativity shown on this site. It makes it unique to the other sites out there. To be able to download a tune from an emerging musician and order a print of a fav image all on the same site... would be amazing;) I don't envy the developing that would have to take place to make it happen! But when it does, it will be unique and wonderful.
